Lyricalsmelter is pleased to release this months featured dj Russtafari!
Trinity Bay. Not the place you’d expect an internationally known Ragga Jungle DJ and producer to find inspiration. But, in the case of Russtafari – aka Russell Soper – its where it all began. Russtafari was just entering his teens when a former DJ from the UK rolled into town. In the course of working for him, the DJ gifted a sort of ‘DJ in a box’ kit to Russtafari. A full, though basic, set up, it’s called a coffin to those in the know. Of this gift, Russtafari says with a smile, “I wouldn’t say it never worked? But, I never got it to work… But, I remember I would open it up, and sit in front of my TV in my bedroom, playing video tapes of Hip Hop music and pretend like I was DJing. And that was the spark.
